About Kolli Hills

Kolli Hills is situated just 45kms from the Namakkal town in Tamil Nadu. It is a part of the Eastern Ghats with its serene views standing at an altitude of 1300 meters. The mountains cover an area of approximately 280 km2. Semmedu village is the headquarters for the Kolli Hills block and Semmedu is connected by road from Namakkal and Salem.

The hills derived their name from Ettukai Amman, also known as Kollipavai, who is the revered deity safeguarding this enchanting region. According to legend, the sages chose Kolli hills when they were looking for a peaceful place to do their penance. However, the demons invaded the hills to disrupt the penance when the sages began their rituals. The sages prayed to Kollipavai, who according to the myth, chased away the demons with her enchanting smile. The Kollipavai hills is still worshipped by the people here and her smile is revered. The mountains have several mythological legends associated with them, and often come across as an eerie place in contemporary tales due to the unexplored and less travelled terrain.

There are multiple road routes to Kolli hills. In addition, direct bus connectivity is available from Nammakal. For those travelling by air Trichy airport is the closest. For those travelling by train Salem Station is the closest.

Even though this mystic destination is open throughout the year, June-October is considered the best time to visit Kolli Hills.
